Asian slab import prices track gains in regional HRC prices

Import prices for steel slab in Southeast Asia and East Asia have increased over the past week, tracking gains seen in regional hot-rolled coil prices. HRC prices in Southeast Asia’s key import market in Vietnam rose by $5-13 per tonne week-on-week, as suppliers refused to accept lower prices amid robust demand in China. “Producers can get better profits by selling to China, so buyers in other regions will have to match those prices if they want to book any material,” a trader in Indonesia said.
