New regulation to decommission upstream tailing dams in Brazil isnecessary to ensure the safety of the community but should notreduce bauxite production, Milton Rego, deputy president of theBrazilian Aluminium Association (Abal), said at Fastmarkets’ 25thBauxite & Alumina conference in Miami.“In our eyes the regulation should not affect bauxite production –the environment might be more difficult but production should beOK,” Rego said on a panel on Tuesday March 26.Abal is made up of aluminium producers in Brazil. The associationaims to address industry related issues combining interests fromboth producers and processors.
