China quickens pace to issue ferrous, non-ferrous scrap import licenses by late June

The Chinese government has started inspections ahead of issuingferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap import licenses for the secondhalf of 2019 to avoid a potential month-long disruption of all scrapimports, the country’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE)said on Wednesday May 29.The environmental ministry aims to issue the first batch oflicenses in late June - right before the launch of a new quota systemto restrict the inflow of metal scrap, MEE spokesperson Liu Youbinsaid at a press conference.
