Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corp is one of two major blast furnacebased producers in Vietnam, together with Hoa Phat Group’s steel mill in Dung Quat. It fired up its first blast furnace in 2017 amid much fanfare over being Vietnam’s first major integrated producer to supply flat steel substrate to its booming cold-rolling and coated coil industries, which had previously been almost 100% dependent on hot-rolled coil imports.
