Turkey's met coal imports edge higher in Jan-sept

Coking coal imports into Turkey increased year-on-year for the first nine months of 2018, according to Turkish Statistical Institute data. Imports were 4.10 mt in January-September, up 2% from the same period a year earlier, the data showed. Imports from the United States continue to dominate market share, despite tariffs of 13.7% on metallurgical (met) coal and 10.0% for met coke, introduced in August. Imports for the first nine months of the year were 1.80 mt, up from 1.59 mt in 2017. Imports in September recorded their third highest total of the year at 0.30 mt, up from 0.15 mt in August and higher than 0.22 mt in September last year.
