South Korea implemented the largest rise in its coal consumption tax to date on 1 April. The tax has been raised by KRW10,000/t ($8.83/t) across all three tiers. Coal with a C.V. of 5,500 kc NAR and above will now be taxed at KRW49,000/t ($43.28/t), up from KRW39,000/t ($34.44/t). Material with a C.V. of 5,000-5,499 kc NAR would be taxed at a rate of KRW46,000/t ($40.47/t), rising from KRW36,000/t ($31.67/t).
