Australia’s september exports fall on easing met coal demand

Australia’s total coal exports in September 2019 were down 1% year on year to 31.63 mt, from 31.85 mt, and lower than the August export total of 32.25 mt, according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data. Metallurgical coal (met coal) exports during the month were 4% lower on year at 14.48 mt from 15.08 mt and 4% lower than the August total of 15.03 mt as demand begins to slow. However, thermal coal exports rose 2% year on year in September to 17.15 mt from 16.77 mt and were almost on par with the previous month’s total of 17.22 mt.
