Japan’s coal imports continue to decline in August

Japan’s total coal imports fell 7% month on month in August, to 13.04 mt from 14.05 mt, and were down 14% year on year from 15.18 mt, the latest customs data from the Japanese Ministry of Finance show. Thermal coal volumes were down 10% on the previous month to 9.13 mt from 10.15 mt and down 13% on the August 2019 volume of 10.44 mt due to a temperate summer.
