Pembroke granted approval for A$1bn metallurgical coal mine

The Queensland government has granted mining leases for the Olive Downs Coking Coal Project in the Bowen Basin. Pembroke Resources chairman and CEO Barry Tudor said the mining lease approvals were the last of the major approvals required for the company to begin construction of the first stage of the A$1bn ($700m) mine. The mine and associated infrastructure will provide up to 500 jobs during the construction stage.
