Westmoreland suspends Coal Valley operations

Citing the significant constraints and challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Canada-based Westmoreland Mining Holdings LLC announced it will place the Coal Valley surface mine in Alberta into care and maintenance. Westmoreland Chief Operating Oicer Joe Micheletti stated Monday: “This is a very diicult call for us to make, however, we know it’s the right decision in the circumstances and one that balances our duty of care to our workforce with the long-term interests of Coal Valley.”
