More Indian cement makers are making enquiries for high c.v. thermal coal as they look to replace costly petroleum coke. A leading producer is understood to have placed orders for two Panamaxes of high c.v. Indonesian material with a sulphur content above 2.5% for plants in northern and southern India. The cement maker had sought 6,000 kc NAR coal with sulphur of less than 1%, but ended up awarding 6,400 kc GAR Indonesian material with sulphur of around 2.5%, market sources say.
