Higher prices for sulphur delivered into China this week provided hope for sulphur producers although some suggest the increases will be brief. New contract numbers for May from the Middle East were broadly in line with last month's, indicating producers are still inclined to sell into China. An increase of $5/mt at the low end of the China CFR assessment (now $135-140/mt CFR) was played down by most, who pointed to an almost-certain slowdown in India's Q2 DAP demand following purchases of around 1.2 million mt so far this quarter.
