Global sulphuric acid markets started the year strong but quiet, with a continued lack of spot availability from smelters likely to persist through the first quarter of the year. Both Asian and European smelter acid availability for spot business was lacking, and some sources were confident that prices above the $30/mt FOB level could be achieved from both regions, a supposition supported by sales from the Two Lions sulphur burner in mid-to-late December reported in the high $40s/mt FOB.
