The outlook for US corn consumption is rising, due in the main to the large projected crop lowering prices and expectations of a rebound in corn used for ethanol production, according to the latest US Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecast. The forecast in the May 12 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) is based on the late-March Prospective Plantings report, which predicted 97 million acres of planted corn this spring. That acreage prediction has been questioned as too large, most recently by CF Industries.
