Ammonium nitrate explosion stuns Beirut

An explosion of around 2,750 t of ammonium nitrate (AN) in Beirut on August 4 was the cause of a blast that devastated Lebanon's main port and overwhelmed the city's hospitals with the dead and injured. The disaster is believed to have killed at least 157 people and injured around 5,000 after AN stored in a port warehouse ignited. Lebanese authorities are still investigating.
