CENTRAL FLORIDA: Mosaic has warned 221 mine employees that it may close indefinitely its South Fort Meade phosphate rock mine in Florida in 60 days? time. The notice was issued because of a lawsuit filed against the company June 30, 2010 by environmentalists contesting the issue by the US Army Corps of Engineers of a federal wetlands permit on June 14 for an extension to the mine into Hardee County. The news follows Mosaic's recent announcement of the completion of its jv investment with Vale and Mitsui in the Bayovar phosphate rock project in Peru, in which Mosaic holds a 35% stake (see below).
