India’s BJP party pledges to expand farmers income scheme

India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced plans to expand its farmers’ income scheme and to give small farmers a pension, according to its election manifesto ahead of the 11 April-May 19 general election in India. The farmers’ income scheme (PM-KISAN), which previously targeted only small farmers (those who owned up to two hectares of land), has now been expanded to all farmers. They will now get INR 6,000 ($86)per annum.
