Five state-controlled companies in India are clubbing together to build 1,500 km of gas pipeline connecting India’s gas-starved north-east to the national grid, with the five companies penning a joint venture agreement late last week, Indian Oil said. The five companies - Indian Oil Corporation, ONGC, GAIL, Oil India Limited and Numaligarh Refinery - agreed to develop, build, operate and maintain the pipeline connecting Guwahati, the largest city in Assam, to the major cities in India’s north-east. In addition, the network will provide an outlet to producing gas fields in the region.
