Ukraine transit disruption fears prompt Hungary to buy and store 2020 gas early

Hungary has reportedly accelerated procurement of Russian gas in preparation for what one minister described as “the worst scenario”, in a sign of growing concern among south-eastern European capitals that Gazprom and Ukraine may be unable to reach a 2020 gas transit deal. Previous disruptions to supply through Ukraine have led to severe shortages in countries heavily or wholly dependent on Russian gas, the worst occurring in the winter of 2009.
