French major Total has signed up for more LNG from Algeria after penning a three-year deal for up to 2 mtpa with Sonatrach, the pair confirmed on Thursday. The contracted volume is 50% less than the previous contract between the parties, with the short-term nature of the deal possibly due to uncertainty surrounding available volumes for export from Algeria post-2030. The renewal of the deal ensures the continuation of Sonatrach’s relationship with its oldest customer, with Total having received LNG from the Algerian firm since 1972.
