Cleantech start-ups raise hopes of gleaning cheap, clean H2 from natural gas

Growing interest in clean hydrogen is spurring development of new technologies and chemical processes that promise to derive zero-emissions H2 from natural gas that is both cleaner than conventional steam methane reforming (SMR), and significantly cheaper than electrolysis powered by renewable electricity. Two notable modular solutions raise hopes of providing a route into decarbonised energy markets for stranded wells or associated gas that is currently flared, although both must overcome some technical challenges along the way to commercialisation.
