The price crash of 2014 forced big oil to become cost conscious and make changes - but these reforms have reignited interest in deepwater development project regions such as the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico and the China Seas, says a report by consultants Wood Mackenzie. “Traditionally, deepwater exploration and production projects are not known for being small scale, fast or budget-friendly,” said Wood Mackenzie’s report The Deepwater Cost Curve: revisited.
