An average capital expenditure (capex) of US $17.8 Bn per year will be spent on 336 oil and gas fields in South East Asia between 2018 and 2020, according to analysts GlobalData. Capex on South East Asia’s traditional oil proj- ects will add up to $8.3 Bn over the three-year period, while heavy oil fields will require $1.7 Bn over the same period. Investments into gas proj- ects in South East Asia will total $43.4 Bn in upstream capex by 2020. Jonathan Markham, oil and gas analysts at GlobalData, said: “Shallow water projects will be responsible for over 63% of $46.3 Bn of upstream capex in South East Asia, or $31.1 Bn by 2020. The onshore projects will be responsible for over 12% or $5.8 Bn, whereas deepwater and ultra-deepwa- ter necessitate $9.4 Bn in capex over the period.”
