US Breaks With Allies on Energy at G7

Before US President Donald Trump spectacularly withdrew from the G7 communique in a tweet, the US had already distanced itself from key Western allies on energy and climate issues (IOD Jun.8’18). In a statement following the Jun. 8-9 meeting in Canada, the partners pledged to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change; reduce emissions; and mobilize climate finance. The US, however, sat those promises out.
