Vopak Acquires Stake in Pakistan LNG Terminal

Vopak will acquire a 29% stake in Pakistan’s Engro Corp.’s 600 MMcf/d (4.5 million ton/yr) floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in Port Qasim, marking the Rotterdam-based independent storage provider’s entry into the country. The partnership will pave way the for Engro and Vopak to collaborate in further ventures at home and abroad, Engro President Ghias Khan said in a statement Friday. The companies didn’t provide any financial details of the transaction, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter. Terminal operator Elengy, which was commissioned in March 2015, holds a 15-year charter and supplies regasified volumes to Pakistan state-owned utility Sui Southern Gas Co. The liquefied gas is supplied under long-term contracts via LNG carriers from various exporting countries to the FSRU, which is moored to the jetty and connected to a pipeline.
