摘要

Shipyards in Singapore have been hit hard by the coronavirus, with at least two clusters of infection emerging this month as the city-state scrambles to fight a recent surge in cases. Most of Singapore’s new coronavirus cases have occurred among its large population of migrant workers, many of whom are employed in the shipbuilding and repair sector — a major supplier of vessels to the offshore oil and gas industry. Singapore is one of the world’s busiest ports and a key provider of shipping services. It is also an important trading and pricing hub for Asian oil markets, with ambitions to become an LNG hub for Asia too (IOD Mar.26’18).
