Polish oil refiners PKN Orlen and Lotos might be forced to sell some assets in order to allay EU regulatory concerns about Warsaw’s plans to combine the two companies. The European Commission has said it will conduct an in-depth probe into Orlen’s petition to acquire Lotos due to concerns that the tie-up would create a “quasi-monopoly” in the wholesale oil products market and remove a competitor from the retail sector (IOD Jul.5’19).
