Chevron has said it will meet its decommissioning obligations associated with the Erawan Block in Thailand but argues that it should only be liable for costs under the terms of its original concession contract. The US major said it is in talks with Thailand to resolve the dispute rather than seek arbitration over who should cover the decommissioning costs. In a statement, Chevron said it was “encouraged” by the energy ministry’s efforts to settle the matter.
