Graphical abstract Two octahedral Co(III) complexes [CoL2]X*4H2O where X=NO3 ? (1) or Cl? (2) were prepared from the hydralazine Schiff base (LH). The structural aspects of the two complexes were analyzed using X-ray single crystal, Hirshfeld and NBO methods combined with DFT calculations. The developmental toxicity of these compounds was tested in zebrafish embryos as well. Display Omitted Highlights ? Two Co(III) complexes, [CoL2]X*4H2O, of hydralazine type ligand were synthesized. ? Their structures were analyzed by SC-XRD, Hirshfeld and DFT methods. ? The two N,N,N-tridentate ligand anions chelate the Co(III) in a meridional manner. ? The nature of the different Co-N interactions is studied using AIM analysis. ? The developmental toxicity of LH and its complexes were tested in zebrafish embryos.
