If the Ariel Hipercar is to hit its ambitiously low target kerb weight, key components, such as the seats, will have to break new ground for lightweight design and manufacture. That's where David Smith and the Seat Design Company (SDC) step in. Technical director Smith and his design team have spent the past three years perfecting a new seat design, created specifically for low-volume production runs such as specialist British sports cars.
