NorthAm sulphur use up through August

North American implied consumption of sulphur increased by 8pc year-over-year to 6.1mn t for the January-August period. Implied consumption represents the volume left after adding sulphur production in the US and Canada with offshore imports, and subtracting export volumes. Production totaled 8.7mn t from January-August, flat from the corresponding period in 2016. Sulphur from crude refining in the US was up by 2pc at 5.7mn t, according to the US Geological Survey. Production via oil sands upgrading in Canada was up by 18pc at 1.4mn t, according to the Alberta Energy Regulator.
