On the Applicability of TiO_2-based Coatings for Cathodic Protection of Type 430 Stainless Steel

摘要

A novel TiO_2-based bilayer coating bearing the configuration, substrate | Sb-doped SnO_2|TiO_2 +SnO_2 was previously investigated by us for photocathodic protection application on a copper substrate. This coating was found to store electrical charge on ultraviolet (UV) illumination possessing a capacitance equal to approx 3000 mu F/cm~2, which property helps in its use for cathodic protection of copper several hours even after the source of illumination was shut off. Based on this observation, similar investigations were carried out on Type 430 stainless steel with a slightly modified coating configuration such as SS|Sb-doped SnO_2|TiO_2 (nanocrystalline) | TiO2 (amorphous) to verify the cathodic protection properties of the coating.
