ICDAS may become trendsetter for EAF to BOF refocusing in Turkey

The loss of competitiveness of Turkey’s EAF steel producers in the world markets along with a decreasing profitabilityof the overseas sales eventually resulted in a tendency to increase the iron ore use in steel production. The country’slargest long steel producer ICDAS became the first to seriously consider the construction of a blast furnace and anoxygen converter in order to optimize costs and is taking specific steps in this direction. There is a strong chance thatsome other Turkish mills will follow ICDAS, taking into account that the confrontation with Chinese sellers on exportsis expected to only worsen in the future.
