Reciprocal crosses were made between S. alba (2n = 24), a potential source of resistance to pests and diseases, and 6 Brassica species (B. juncea, B. carinata, B. napus, B. nigra, B. campestris and B. oleracea). Hybrids were obtained from 6 crosses:reciprocal crosses involving B. carinata and B. juncea, S. alba X B. campestris and B. napus X S. alba. Plants were multiplied in MS medium containing 0.2 mg IAA and 2 mg kinetin. Two hybrids, S. alba X B. carinata and S. alba X B. juncea, flowered in vitro and had chromosome numbers of 2n = 29 and 30, respectively.
