Chinese iron ore imports fall; steel exports steady

Inward-bound shipments of iron ore to China decreased by 14% in August to 74.1 Mt, compared withthe previous month, according to customs. July's import total of 86.1 Mt was the highest this year.Market observers said continued weakness in steel demand caused mills to reduce purchases of theseaborne raw material. Total imports for the first eight months of the year were 612.96 Mt, down 0.2%year-on-year.
