Alaska slashes tax credits for oil producers.

In the fiscal year to 30 June, 2016, oil companies in the US state of Alaska had been set to receive $430MM in tax credits from the state. On June 29, however, Governor Bill Walker exercised his line item veto to cut payments down to the statutory minimum of $30MM. "We have a $4B deficit, which means the status quo is not on the menu," he said, adding mat producers may cash in on the other $400MM in credits later on—if the state has me funds. On the same day, Gov. Walker signed into law HB 247, ending most tax credits for Cook Inlet oil producers after 2017.
