The US Dept. of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has unveiled its combined algal processing (CAP) technology that it says reduces the cost of producing biofuels from algae. NREL researchers looked to more completely utilize all the algal cellular components, not just lipids, via novel processing techniques (exposing all algae components to fermentation) in CAP to yield more biofuels.
