Valero to process more Eagle Ford crude, buy railcars.

The company announced that it intends to increase its Eagle Ford crude processing by spending $220-280MM to build a new crude oil "topper" at its 90K-b/d Houston, TX (US) refinery. The topper will allow Valero Energy Corp. to skim off any material that is deemed to light to process in the existing CDU. Currendy, the company processes 140K b/d of Eagle Ford crude at its 205K-b/d Corpus Christi, TX, 95K-b/d Three Rivers, TX, and its Houston, TX refineries. The new crude topper is expected to be operational by H1 2015. The company is also utilizing shale resources from the Midwest, as well, with 40K b/d of Bakken crude running at its 180K-b/d Memphis, TN refinery.
