China to Rise to Be 2nd Largest LNG Importer Just After Japan by 2035

UK oil giant BP’s Energy Outlook 2035, which was released on February 17th, says that China will rise to become the second largest LNG importer just after Japan. Gas production in China will increase with progress in developing shale gas, which, however, will not be able to cover the growing domestic demand. Therefore, its LNG import volume is expected to increase. Especially, Its dependency on LNG will grow. LNG will overtake pipeline supplies as the dominant form of Chinese gas imports by the 2030s.
