According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Finance, the quantities of stainless steel scrap imported by Japan from main sources in March of 2010 and broken down by discharging ports were as per the tables (1) and (2) attached hereto. Namely, Japan imported 12,667 tons of stainless steel scrap in March of 2010, having had a considerable decrease of 21.6% compared with that ( 16,167 tons ) in the previous month of February. In preparation for settlements of accounts closed on the 31st March of 2010, the cargoes of stainless steel scrap arrived in Japan were once held back to pass the customs in March, in order to reduce stocks of this scrap at the end of March, and cleared the customs after having entered into April. Consequently, the imports of stainless steel scrap into Japan in April increased on the statistical figures.
