Rio Tinto To Further Inject 3.1-B US dollars In WA Iron Ore Operations- Aiming to establish 283 Mtpa infrastructure capacity by end 2013 -

Rio Tinto announced October 20 that it will invest a further 3.1 billion US dollars (Rio Tinto share 2.1 billion dollars) in expanding its iron ore infrastructure in the Pilbara, Western Australia. This investment will increase infrastructure capacity at and for its shipping ports - Dampier and Cape Lambert - to a total of 283 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) by the end of 2013. Further investments will be required to achieve production of 283 Mtpa, such as mine and housing expansions, the approval of which is anticipated within the next 12 months. Rio Tinto has also approved meanwhile a final feasibility study into increasing Pilbara production capacity to 333 Mtpa.
