Atorvastatin is set to become the most prescribed drug in the UK following changes to cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). The guidelines recommend that all patients with a 10% or greater risk of developing CVD over the next 10 years should be offered atorvastatin 20mgfor primary prevention. This cuts the threshold by half, making an extra 4.5 million patients in England eligible for statins.
