LISTENING to the radio recently I heard an advertisement for a xylometazoline decongestant product that began with the words: "When you've got nasal congestion and a blocked nose,...".As Oscar Wilde might have said, to suffer nasal congestion may be regarded as a misfortune, but to have a blocked nose as well looks like carelessness. Now I don't want to appear snotty-nosed about it, but using synonymous expressions in that way certainly looks like carelessness on the part of both the advertising copywriters and the pharmaceutical company executives who must have given the advertisement their approval.
