AS A profession, what we lose in the way of narcissism we certainly make up for with angst and introspection. We are fascinated with what people think of us, whether other health professionals respect us, or if there is a conspiracy to get rid of us and replace us with cheaper models. We know how much we know, but we obsess about whether patients know what we know or if we know that they think we only know that we know it all and that they do not know an awful lot. We pride ourselves on our knowledge and yet, if doctors are from Mars and nurses are from Venus, we seem to reside on a diffuse asteroid belt in an identity nebula out in the galaxy of uncertainty.
