During my MPharm course at Liverpool John Moores University, we had a two-day intensive first aid course that also consisted of ear, nose and throat examination and diagnosis. We were visually assessed on how we located the ear drum using the appropriate medical instruments. We used otoscopes to look into fellow colleagues' ears, noses and throats and were shown pictures of what infections look like and also where to locate certain things (eg, the ear drum or the tonsils). We were also shown how to use our fingers to check the different glands around the throat area to see which were raised and the appropriate way to feel them.
