WITH 2007 behind us and 2008 ahead, now is the time to look back at recent trends to understand what the market may do in the future. What has been remarkable to comment on in the past trading year? First of all, after years of declining or flat prices in a relatively narrow trading range, cotton prices have been rebounding up 25%. Effectively we left the old 50 to 60 cents/pound (USD) range to work in the 60 to 70 cent range (spot month), leaving the door open for much higher prices if robust worldconsumption continues to absorb our cotton surplus in a lower cotton production scenario worldwide.
