I write regarding the standing of pharmacists in the public domain.I joined the prison service 40 years ago as chief pharmacist at Brixton Prison.One day,a prison officer had occasion to call into the pharmacy with a prisoner in tow.After the officer and I had finished our conversation,the prisoner said: "Excuse me,sir,but are you a proper pharmacist?"Resisting the temptation to be facetious,I assured him that that I was.Then he said,in awe,if not incredulity: "Do you mean to say that you could actually work for Boots?"I felt that I had arrived.
