When I was asked to write this article, I spent some time thinking about what steps industry stakeholders need to take as they unite to build a better trade. My conclusion is that there are three distinct areas we need to focus on. These last five years have been extraordinarily destructive. It is often said that great accomplishments arise from ruins, and I believe that this applies to the cotton trade now. With its accomplishments over recent years, the International Cotton Association (ICA) has become the only organization to which stakeholders can turn in the event of a dispute. Its rules and regulations are now the backbone of the cotton trade.
