Despite 90 years of insulin use and advances in therapy for patients with diabetes, treatment remains associated with notable limitations. Attempts to achieve near normoglycaemia with subcutaneous insulins continue to raise important questions, including those about the choice of preparation and injection regimen, how to reduce incidence of hypoglycaemia, how to prevent excess weight gain, and how to avoid other effects of inappropriate hyperinsulinaemia
