A Japanese call girl who developed a new strain of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in her throat triggered a worldwide warning earlier this month over the threat from antibiotic-resistant disease. The woman, from Kyoto, was found to be carrying a strain of the disease, HO41, which the joint Swedish/Japanese research team said was "likely to transform a common and once easily treatable infection into a qlobal threat to public health".
